"82nd COMBAT SECURITY POLICE SQUADRON"
Lineage - Honors - History

What started out as a inquiry about 821st CSPS patches, insignia and history, ended up with some interesting facts.

John W Brokaw, PhD., Historian, Air Force Security Police Association, was gracious enough to offer his services in our quest.

How about the 421st Combat Training Squadron being the carrier of the 821st's traditions? Did anyone know about that? I sure didn't. I would have thought the 821st SFS would do that, but they don't.

I just discovered that the 821st SFS is active and stationed at Thule AB, Greenland, but have conflicting information about their patch. Their "Lineage & Honors" page in the archives states they have no authorized emblem, but my contact at Maxwell states they had one approved on 8 Aug 2003. The specificity of that date inclines me to believe he knows something that escaped the compiler of the L&H page. I've asked for a copy of the patch; we'll see what comes through.

Meanwhile, speaking of things left out of the L&H page, there is no mention there of the 821st being a CSPS or ever having been stationed in Vietnam. Those are rather glaring omissions, in my book.

The current 821st SFS patch for the 821st SFS based in Thule AB, Greenland, hence the "Artus" reference. Note the absence of any Safeside referent; of course, they are not the traditions bearer of the 821st CSPS, which I find strange.
